Hi all,

Because I've received enough emails from writers explaining some unfortunate circumstances during this winter season, the posting deadline has been extended until Saturday, January 10th. This will be the hard deadline.

To those who've worked valiantly to meet the original deadline, thank you. I greatly appreciate your help to me and your help to make this challenge as successful as it can be. (Honestly, that rhyme was unintentional! But if you like it, it totally was on purpose.)

Summary: Just one reason to study, learn, and practice.
Author’s Notes: The prompt was "sword fights." I failed in so many ways, which is quite embarrassing. I’m pretty sure I managed to miss all of my recipient’s "likes" and hit some "dislikes", besides forgetting to whump Sheppard in some way. I’ll just see myself to the door now.  But before I go, I must give thanks to two lovely ladies: saltandburnboys for giving me confidence in this story, and firesign10 for cleaning this up and making it better :)

UPDATE #2: Slugs are gone...at least I hope so.  Let me know if you spot them anymore.
UPDATE: Sorry, folks!  I don't know what's going on with the picture in the text box and didn't mean for this post to turn into a conversation about slugs. lol.  I am currently investigating, so please bear with me.

Hi all,

It's hard to believe almost another year has passed.  Since winter is around the corner, I thought I'd check in early with a couple of questions.  So, when I rejoined fandom last year, I hadn't known there was another SGA holiday fic exchange (sga_santa) occurring at the same time.  My question is, would it be more practical to direct interested parties to this larger fic exchange than host one here? Since there are more participants from all walks of SGA fandom, there would be a greater chance of a successful matchup, especially for those who don't prefer gen.  Sign-ups are open until October 6th, so it's not too late.

At the same time, I do love having a community of people who share a very specific interest.  And I would host another community fic exchange, so long as everyone who signs up guarantees they will complete their assignment (even if that means only 3 people and you have a 50/50 chance of guessing your mystery writer).   Last year, I had no pinch-hitters, and I was lenient with extensions because I really wanted everyone to get their gift.  Since we're small in numbers, I can stay on top of extra communication with the gifter and their recipient, but it's not ideal.  So help me out - if you sign up, commit to finishing on time as well.  Also, I'm open to feedback/suggestions to make this year (if it happens) even better.

The other idea is that we can have a more informal activity, like a comment meme where people can post prompts and our intrepid hero-writers/artists swoop in and fill whatever strikes their fancy.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Thanks for reading this too-long and too-serious message :) *does the banana dance*

I've searched my favorites and all the Sheppard communities over on ffnet. I know I'm probably just missing it, but the need to find this story is driving me crazy. You know how it is when you get a specific story in your head and the more you can't find it, the more you want to read it.

What I remember is John and Rodney are on a bridge. John is injured and Rodney is holding onto him, but he's having a hard time and starting to slip towards the edge. John tells Rodney to let him go, but Rodney refuses. Then the others arrive and save them. I think John has a bad head injury, like a skull fracture. I think when they arrive back in the gateroom, John collapses and a shield comes over him that no one knew was there. Rodney keeps obsessing over how calm John was when he told him to let him go. And now I'm not sure if I'm getting two stories confused.

Any of that sound familiar??

I've been searching and searching for this fic for weeks now and I really appriecate all your help with locating this Gen AU story.
It's just driving me crazy that I can't find it and I know I read it a couple of years ago. John's father is a military man
also and he goes to visit John in Atlantis to patch up their bad relationship. While there he's examined by Carson
to see if he has the gene but he doesn't, telling Carson that John was Adopted. John finds out and he's hurt and
angry. John takes his father along on a mission and the father is nearly sucked dry by a wraith but a young soldier
is killed instead. I think I remember Johns father having one or two pearl handle guns. It is an au story. Also it is not
"A Time To Heal" which I have already read, good story. I'll read any stories where John's father is alive and in the
military, sadly there doesn't happen to be all that many. Thank you all for your marvelous stories
